Klaus Wiese’s monumental Ommayads appears on CD for the first time

A long-awaited reissue of one of the deepest and most mystical albums by German drone-ambient master Klaus Wiese. Originally released in 2004 as a very limited CDr edition, Ommayads now returns as a proper CD release, with carefully restored and remastered sound.

The breath of Sufi mysticism

Ommayads is a 57-minute immersion into a space of stillness, resonance and suspended time. Named after the great Umayyad dynasty of caliphs, the album reflects Wiese’s long-standing interest in Sufism, Eastern philosophy and the sacred geometry of sound.

Across four untitled pieces, hypnotic vibrations of Tibetan singing bowls, acoustic zither overtones and faint synthesizer haze unfold slowly, creating a work of rare depth and concentration.

A key element of this new edition is the remastering by 121 (Closing The Eternity, Velehentor), who has already worked on the sound of many previous releases, including the monumental El-Hadra. With his unique sensitivity to deep, resonant and chthonic sound spaces, 121 approached Wiese’s material with great care and respect. The original analogue resonances have been cleaned of age-related artifacts, the stereo field has gained more depth and physical presence, and the overtones of the singing bowls are now even clearer, strengthening the album’s meditative impact.
